FAQ
What is AdBlue®?
Strict emissions regulations have pushed truck manufacturers to implement advanced systems to reduce harmful exhaust gases. One of the key developments has been the Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) system, which uses AdBlue® to effectively lower emissions.
However, it quickly became clear that while the system offers excellent environmental benefits, it is also prone to failures. Due to the high cost of repairs, many drivers and fleet operators are turning to reliable alternatives—such as the SCR emulator—to avoid costly downtime and keep their vehicles running smoothly.
AdBlue® is a registered trademark of the Verband der Automobilindustrie (VDA). It is a high-purity aqueous urea solution used in the Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) system to clean exhaust gases. When injected into the exhaust stream, AdBlue® helps convert harmful nitrogen oxides (NOx) into harmless nitrogen and water vapor.
This reduction process occurs via a dedicated injector that sprays the urea solution into the exhaust system. The use of AdBlue® enables vehicles over 3.5 tonnes to comply with strict Euro 4, Euro 5, and Euro 6 emission standards established by the European Union. These regulations target pollutants such as nitrogen oxides (NOx), particulate matter (PM), hydrocarbons (HC), and carbon monoxide (CO).
Unfortunately, frequent failures within the SCR system—and the high cost of repairs and part replacements—lead many drivers and fleet operators to seek more affordable and reliable alternatives. One of the most effective solutions is the use of an SCR emulator box, such as those offered by BlueTruck24.
The flawed design of the system utilizing AdBlue® fluid, along with the resulting increased maintenance costs, has led many transport companies to seek alternative solutions. Over time, one of the most common approaches has been to disable the SCR system entirely.
By installing a specialized SCR emulator, the vehicle continues to display all standard SCR parameters during diagnostics, identical to those of a fully operational system. The emulator sends the same signals to the engine control unit (ECU) as a functioning SCR system would, effectively preventing fault codes and failure modes caused by SCR-related issues.
With this device, users can eliminate all SCR-related errors, and the physical SCR system can either be completely removed or left in place as a non-functional “dummy” component.
⚠️ However, it’s important to note that SCR emulators may be restricted or prohibited in certain countries. The decision to use one is entirely your responsibility.
We strongly recommend reviewing your local emissions regulations as well as the laws of any countries your vehicle will be operating in.
The device functions like a diagnostic computer — specifically, it performs the “Clear Fault Codes” function. It was designed to allow drivers to clear the 20 km/h “limp mode” that occurs when the SCR system fails. In such cases, the driver can simply plug the device into the diagnostic port and clear the speed restriction fault at any time — independently and without the need for expensive towing services. Once the fault is cleared, the vehicle can be driven at normal speed to a service center or back to base for proper repair.
In today’s conditions, a fault code clearer is an essential tool for any Euro 6 vehicle
