What is AdBlue?
AdBlue is a trademark belonging to the Verband der Automobilindustrie. It is a high purity aqueous solution of urea. When introduced into the exhaust system, it cleans the exhaust gases. The product is used as a reducer to break down in the SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) catalyst environmentally harmful nitrogen oxides into harmless water vapour and nitrogen. The reduction takes place through a nozzle, which injects the urea solution into the exhaust system. The use of AdBlue makes it possible to meet the Euro 4, Euro 5 and Euro 6 emission standards set by the European Union for vehicles above 3.5 tonnes. Substances such as nitrogen oxides (Nox), particulate matter (PM), hydrocarbon (HC), and carbon oxides (CO) are subject to the regulations.
